Mr. Henry Burke passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 while a patient at Navicient Healthcare of Central Georgia. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Willowlake Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Henry Lee “Stoney” Burke was born on February 9, 1947 to the parentage of O.W. Burke and Leola Felton Burke in Macon County, Georgia. He was educated in Dade and Macon County Public School System. At an early age he joined a local church in Perrine, Florida and he frequent the St. Paul Baptist Church.
He was employed at Blue Bird Body Company/Wanderlodge for many years and later at Royster and Clark. With a desire to serve, he enlisted in the United States Reserve.
Henry was united in Holy Matrimony to Elizabeth “Sister” Draines Burke to this union one son, Derrick Burke was born. They both predeceased him.
Though short in status; he had a large heart. Stoney was a very wise man with a wealth of knowledge and he did not mind sharing it. He loved fast cars, motorcycles and horseback riding in his younger days. Stoney was a trailblazer, determined not to follow the rules; instead creates his own rules and style. Life was meant to be enjoyed and he did to the fullest with his buddies mostly under the tree in his backyard while working on vehicles.
“I’m at the end of the road and the sun has set for me; I want no rites in a gloom filled room; why cry for a soul set free, miss me, but let me go. All of my pains are over; I’m tired family, my soul need rest; I must go now: King Jesus is calling my name; He has my mother, father, brother, wife and my son they are all waiting to welcome me in. O, I didn’t want to go at first; however, on Monday, May 24, 2021 my earthly journey came to an end surrounded by family at the Atrium Navicent Health, Macon, Georgia. Thank you for always loving me.”
He is survived by: 2 granddaughters: A’Derrica Burke and Kelsa Burke (Seneca) Anderson, Mesquite, TX; daughter/niece, Sheila Brannon, Atlanta, GA; grandson/nephew: Octavious White, Atlanta, GA, great-grandchildren; Jaelen Burke, Rhyan Brown, Rhavyn Anderson and Seneca Anderson Jr all of Mesquite, TX; like a daughter, Bennetta Burke, Mesquite, TX; like a son, Paul Ellison, Dallas, TX; reared as sister and brother: Felix Felton and Betty Felton Jones; 2 brothers, Eddie James Burke of Douglasville, GA and Bobby Burke of Atlanta, GA; 9 sisters: Alice (Reverend Johnny) Gordon, Lizzie Burke, Letha Barner, Josie (Keith) Thomas all of Atlanta, GA; Catherine Taylor, Marshallville, GA, Yvonne Bryant, Fort Valley, GA, Gloria (Willie) Rogers, Byron, GA, Dorothy (James) Slappy, Montezuma, GA, and Charlene (Milton) Tookes, Knoxville, TN; 2 sisters-in-law and spouse, Fannie (William) Davis, Rochester, NY and Annie (Terry) Phelps, Marshallville, GA; a host of loving nieces and a host of devoted nephews including Mario Taylor, who was more like a son; several great-nieces and great- nephews whom mostly called him “Uncle Joe”; a host of other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
