Mr. Fletcher Lyons was born February 6, 1942, in Crawford County, Georgia, to the parents Ben Lyons, Sr. and Emma Cook. Fletcher graduated from Crawford County High School in 1960.
At a young age, Fletcher joined Cool Spring Baptist Church. During his early adolescence, his passage led him to Pompano Beach, Florida, and was gainfully employed at Captain Place Restaurant for several years. He later relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was employed with Roadway Trucking Company for numerous years. After years of dedicated services with Roadway, he soon returned to Fort Valley, Georgia. After returning back to the area he loves, he started a new career at Fort Valley State University. His dedication and commitment led him to the position of Landscape Supervisors,25 years of services, and retirement. Soon after his retirement, he continued his passion for landscaping and started his own successful landscape business. One of his beloved hobbies, was golfing. His love for golf, began during his early life, while working as a caddy. Over the years, his golf skill evolved, and his scoring average was consistently in the ’80s, which is very good for a recreational golfer. Fletcher spent his leisure time, playing golf, helping others, and visiting family and friends.
Fletcher was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Virginia; son, Gary; parents, Ben Lyons, Sr. and Emma Cook; brothers, Ben Jr. and Tony Bernard; sisters, Ernestine, Barbara and Janie.
Fletcher departed his life on January 24, 2021, at his home. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving person, with a peaceful spirit and an adoring sense of humor. He was a supportive father, caring grandfather, and a friend to all his relatives and friends.
His survivors include five sons, Frederick (Zonda) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Ronald (La’ Tonya), Kerry, Michael all of Fort Valley, Georgia, and Scott of Trion, Georgia; two daughters, Sharon of Fort Valley, Georgia and Shemika (Ricky) of Lizella, Georgia; three step-children Cherry Ann Grable of Fort Valley, Georgia, Anthony (Joanna) Oates of Harrisburg Pennsylvania, and Vernon Oates of Orange Park, Florida; Siblings, three brothers, Albert of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Donnie (Veda) of Fort Valley, Georgia and Bobby Daniely of Burlington, New Jersey; one sister, Betty (Evangelist Nathan) Martin of Warner Robins, Georgia; three brothers-in-law, Robert Thorpe of Fort Valley, Georgia, Johnny (Charlene) Thorpe of Milledgeville, Georgia, and Clarence of Nicolls, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Irene Bonner of Macon, Georgia, Annie (Bennie) Thomas of Detroit, Michigan, and Eunice (Claude) Young of Middleburg, Florida; twenty four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives
