Cordele Ga - With sadness we announce the passing of Mr. Edward George McKenzie of 1208 South 13th Street in Cordele. Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Bethel Cemetery.
Edward George McKenzie, affectionately known as “Bruh,” was born to the union of the late Mr. Eddie Lee McKenzie, Sr., and the late Mrs. Earlene Lee Dawson McKenzie in Crisp County, Georgia. During his younger days, Edward accepted Christ and joined the 13th Street Church of Christ under the leadership of Reverend Leroy Hover.
His parents and a loving brother, George McKenzie, affectionately known as “Kent,” all preceded him in death.“Bruh” worked for the City of Cordele Water Department for over
two decades until he retired; then, he began working with the Harris Management Group, where he remained another 15 years. He always
enjoyed hanging around his family and friends. He loved telling jokes, talking, and eating. His favorite pastime was sitting on the porch in his favorite chair and speaking to everyone in the neighborhood who he knew. He had a special affinity for the young ladies. He also loved riding and sightseeing.
On Friday, October 2, 2020, while a patient in Phoeby Putney MemoriaHospital in Albany, Georgia, Edward’s life journey came to a peaceful end.
His life will be cherished and remembered by: his son, Fred Johnson; two grandchildren, Shatayah Jackson and Javaski Jackson, all of Cordele,
Georgia; four siblings, Rosie McKenzie, Eddie (Trina) McKenzie, Jr., Lula (Carl) Jackson, and Ann (George) Whitehead, Sr. all of Cordele,
Georgia; five nieces, Niesha (Willie Reader) Mckenzie, Erica McKenzie, Kilesha McKenzie, Shae McKenzie, and Sue Kelly, all of Cordele,
Georgia; ten nephews, Charles (Sherri) McKenzie of Atlanta, Georgia, Jimmy (Sonya) McKenzie, Eddie Hicks, Reggie Caldwell, Tyquavious
McKenzie, Broderick Porter, Jr., Hiram Ford, Anthony Walker, Jr., Marquarious Greene, and Jimmy McKenzie, Jr., all of Cordele, Georgia;
four aunts, Wynette Jordan and Lillie Dawson, both of Cordele, Georgia, Lois Brown of Tampa, Florida, and Myrtis Dawson of Atlanta, Georgia;
great-nieces, Adrianna Walker, Alexis Porter, Sh’quohah McKenzie, Tynykia McKenzie, Hillary Ford, Alexandria Ford, Shatona McKenzie,
and Shearmah McKenzie; two loving great-great-nieces, Kaalyiah Paul and Royalty Yowe; a godson, Esau Ford; two devoted friends, Query
Woodson and Sharon Raines, both of Cordele, Georgia; and a host of cousins, other relatives, numerous godchildren, and many sorrowing friends.
