Miss Lena Mae Rumph was born on August 19, 1941, in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late Mr. Myles Rumph and Mrs. Bertha Fedrick-Postell- Rumph.
Lena gave her life to Christ at an early age, when she joined Central Union Baptist Church.
Lena was a graduate of the H.A. Hunt High School. Lena matriculated at Fort Valley State College and pursued a B.A. Degree in English. Lena also obtained a Master's Degree in Library Science from Atlanta University.
Upon Graduating from Fort Valley State College, Lena did her student teaching in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She began her career of teaching at Atlanta Public Schools System, where she taught English at Bass High School until its closing. She went on to become a Media Specialist for Guice Elementary, and Fickett Elementary schools; after 32 years of service with Atlanta Public Schools Lena gracefully retired from Fickett Elementary school. She began a whole new career and began work for the Voter Registration where she worked for many years. Later Lena was employed with The Georgia state capital in the office of Senator Vincent Fort. She loved working and living life. Lena was an avid traveler, and an exceptional writer.
Lena's church away from home was St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church, in College Park, Georgia, where she worked diligently, on the mother board.
Lena lived in Atlanta, Georgia for over fifty years. She relocated back to Fort Valley Georgia in 2013, where she recommitted herself back to Central Union Baptist Church, being a faithful worker on the Usher Board.
She is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Myles Rumph, mother, Mrs. Bertha Fedrick-Postell- Rumph, brothers, Myles Rumph Jr., Charles Postell, Willie L. Rumph, and one sister Lillian Rumph.
God is calling me. I am ready now for Jesus. I feel his hand upon me. He has guided me through it all. I’m ready, my body is tired. Do not weep for me, rejoice for I’m happily resting in the bosom of Jesus with all of our loved ones that have gone on before me. On Sunday, December 1, 2019, Lena quietly made transitional to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 1, 2019.
Lena leaves behind precious memories to her beloved family including, two brothers, James C. Postell and Nathaniel L.(Cordella) Rumph and one sister Lilla M. Rumph-Tennyson.
Several devoted nieces and nephews whom she loved with all of her heart. "We Love you Auntie!"
Her sisters away from home; Mrs. Troyann Yvonne Hogans (Yvonne); Mrs. Jerrolean Dennard ( Jerri); A devoted friend Mrs. Alice Williams of Achorage, Alaska; whom she traveled with frequently; a son, Graylen Waltress,(Knoxville Tennesse). Lena also leaves behind great-nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends including Mrs. Bobbie J. Miller (her Special Teacher).
Whatever Lena was involved in, she was going to give it her all. She did everything first class, and top-notch. Lena was a smart, resourceful, generous woman, who loved her family, and friends. She will be missed, but if we keep the memories of her, she will live forever.
