Mr. JD McGhee was born on December 12, 1926 in Macon County, Georgia.  He was the son of Rose Bud McGhee Battle and James Murph.  Mr. McGhee was raised and received his education in Macon County, Georgia.

JD joined St. Louis CME Church of Fort Valley, Georgia at an early age and became a devout member.

On August 31, 1946 he was united in holy matrimony to the late Emma Mae Young McGhee and to this union four daughters and a son were born.  Emma and JD enjoyed sixty-two years of marital bliss.

JD was a dedicated employee of  the Blue Bird Corporation for over thirty years.

May my footprints leave an impression on your heart:  Mr. JD had a heart of gold for everyone, a friend to all, loved singing, and spending time with family. He enjoyed attending "breakfast" meetings throughout the week at McDonald's with friends for years, and having family time at Ole Time Country Buffet on Sunday.  Mr. JD McGhee loved worshipping with other churches every chance he could with his late wife.  He was a caring man that taught his children to always be kind and that it's not what you make but how you use it.  JD had a smile that could warm your soul.  He also had a beautiful spirit that endured through many transformations and carried with it a patient endurance, a perserverance of the soul that stands the test of time; the colors of his life will not fade but grow brighter in our lives with every changing season.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Bud McGhee Battle and James Murph; his wife Emma McGhee; daughter Rosie Amica; and a brother Howard McGhee.

On Wednesday, May 30, 2018 JD bade farewell to this world at the age of 91 years old and entered eternal rest.

Mr. McGhee will be forever remembered by: four children, Mrs. Carrie (Jimmy) Thomas of Decatur, GA, Mrs. Shirley (Joseph) Harvey of Warner Robins, GA, Mr. JD McGhee, Jr. (A dear  friend TIffany Coley), and Mrs. Gloria (Thomas "Brad") Barner all of Marshallville, GA.; twelve grandchildren, including Mr. Damien McGhee whom he reared as a son; twenty-one great grandchildren; a brother, Mr. James (Laverne) Murph of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Ms. Lizzie McGhee of Fort Valley, GA.; a son-in-law, Mr. Charles Amica, Sr. of Atlanta, GA; god-brother, Rev. Victor Johnson; god-sisters. Ms. Mary Ragin and Ms. Althenese Denmark both of Fort Valley, GA.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
